Favorite solo artist
Whos your favorite solo artist lately?
Mine at the moment is probly Jandek, or Keiji Heino. Jandek's-Glasgow Sunday (his first documented live performance in 2004) is total fuckin amazing to me...some say hes just "hitting random notes" but I think its "totally honest musical expression".
Jandek:

When I first read "solo artist" I thought that you meant those people that compose solos and stuff. (that Wintersun guy (Jari?) and whoever composed the solos for Tarabas)

Haha, I wanted to say the same, and Neige of course.

Ron Jarzombek (Watchtower, Spastic Ink) has some great solo stuff. Kaki King rules, David Bazan (Pedro The Lion) is obviously awesome. Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) has a cd of him performing a bunch of NMH songs live by himself on acoustic guitar.
Uhhh whooooo elseeeee? There's probably more that I can't think of.

Well yeah... if it means just artists on their own, I'd have to say Anders Nystrom (Blakkheim), or Neige, or Jari Maenpaa (or however you write that)... hmmm...
Re: Favorite solo artist
I had forgotten about Buckethead

Re: Favorite solo artist
How is Jari Mäenpää a solo artist? He was always/is still active in complete band(s). He did wrote all the music for Wintersun and most of the Ensiferum stuff but does that makes somebody a solo artist?
Just wondering.

Aye. I always go back to a song or two of Buckethead, every now and then, haven't given any of the albums a good listen to for a long time, I just might do so soon

Brendan Benson is a talented pop/rock/folk songwriter, I listen to him when I'm in a mood for something mellower. But of course, the main awards go to PJ Harvey and Mark Lanegan... It's probably not the first time I express my infinite love for them.
PJ Harvey is a real solo artist now, she tours alone, without a backing band. Only her plus a guitar/piano/sampler/other instrument. Sometimes a drum machine.
