Re: The Recommendation Thread
Get the March of the Black Holocaust split by Belketre and Vlad Tepes, raw as fuck, lo-fi, no synths and crazy ass vocals. I don't like it too much, but you might enjoy it. Also other LLN stuff might be up your alley.evil scientist wrote:Here's a tricky request.
Black Metal is a real terra incognita for me. Can you guys recommend me some bands? I'm looking for harsh and raw stuff, lo-fi production, without synths, and possibly non-NSBM.
Edit: Of course also the obvious albums: Ulver - Nattens Madrigal, Burzum - Filosofem (mainly the first three tracks) and of course Transilvanian Hunger by Darkthrone.
I might look for more on my own computer.

I'm not really into Black Metal, much less the "raw", "lo-fi" stuff, but Austere's 2007 album "Withering Illusions And Despair" is extremely good, I think you'd enjoy it. They're on myspace. The songs are long, the production on the guitar makes it sound like it's droning/buzzing, but you can still distinguish it enough. It's in a nice spot between good production (see Emperor) and unlistenable production (see Be Persecuted's "I.I", I can't listen to a single song).
No synths either. Don't think it's NSBM, they're from Australia. Aussies are pretty laid back dudes.

Abyssic Hate is cool. And the band Tallant mentioned sounds like band I should check out. And I need to go to bed now. First finish my beer though.

HI-FI IS FAIL!
nah i enjoy hi-fi recordings just as much as lo-fi recordings, though i probly enjoy lo-fi recordings more...so im bitching just to be a white trash hillbilly trick, hot buns and jellyrolls...etc.
